Apparently with every Canon camera released after the 7D Mk II (including the 80D, 5DS, 5DSR and 1DX Mk II) the camera won't return a shutter count to an application through the USB interface. The thread at …ation-count-on-an-eos-80d seems to indicate that Windows support was dropped at version 3.x.x. Unfortunately there isn’t any version history to establish when the Windows support ended. Today they are up to version 4.x.x and clearly it will not work on Windows of any version. In case you attempt to use a connection type that won't work with your. USB and Wi-Fi cameras will not work via image files, and vice-versa: File Mode can't be used on cameras that require a direct USB or Wi-Fi connection. Back in 2014 there was a ShutterCount (for Windows) and both the Windows and Mac version were roughly versions 1.x.x and it only supported the Canon “D” cameras up to the 70D. If your camera is listed under File Mode, then you must use a picture taken with the camera to retrieve the shutter counter. On the Mac it is on the list but the camera needs to be connected to the Mac via usb, so I can't check for you (with just a file I mean).
On the 2014 Windows list the 80D isn't listed obviously and apparently it wasn't added later. You can check the shutter count for the battery in the Battery Information option in the menu.
Some cameras don't embed the shutter count information into the EXIF data, which can make it slightly trickier to find, but when there's a will there's a way.
